Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia Fundraising Month at WHRIA

Sherin Jarvis, one of WHRIA’s physiotherapists, and her daughter Phoebe have set up a fund raising page for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia, the money raised helps women in Ethiopia to recover from debilitating childbirth injuries. Our goal of $3600.00 would pay for fistula surgery for 6 women.

We hope hope you might consider donating by clicking on this link to help reach our goal.

Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia was founded by Drs Catherine and Reg Hamlin in 1974. From humble beginnings, the organisation has grown and matured to a healthcare network of 550 staff servicing six hospitals, a rehabilitation centre, and an educational collaboration training surgeons, midwives and clinical leaders from around the world.

More than 45,000 women have received free treatment and the network operates purely on philanthropic donations.

In rural Ethiopia, women have little or no access to emergency obstetric care. If labour becomes obstructed, they can be left in agonising labour for days. They almost always lose their baby and many are left with a fistula, causing permanent incontinence. Pushed to the edge of society, these women are among the most marginalised in the world.

At Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia, women receive free surgery, counseling, physiotherapy and loving care.
